On the Issues, Jose leads with Conviction!

FIX CITY HALL’S BUDGET

National City is facing a $12.7 million budget deficit, and working families can’t afford a City Hall that spends faster than it earns. Over the last five years, city spending grew about 40% while revenue grew only about 18%, and the city’s reserves are projected to nearly run out by June 2027.

Jose will bring an entrepreneurial approach to City Hall: putting public land to work to build homes families can buy, attracting investment that brings in new revenue, and making every dollar count, without balancing the budget on the backs of the firefighters, police officers and city workers who keep National City running.

FIGHTING FOR WORKING FAMILIES

Jose is a former union organizer and father of four who knows how hard people work to afford groceries and pay rent. That’s why he fights for working families every day at City Hall.

On the City Council, Jose fought to freeze rents, took on landlords to cap rent hikes at 5% for mobile home families, raised the minimum wage, added 240 affordable homes and put local workers first in line for jobs rebuilding our streets and sidewalks. As Mayor, he’ll keep fighting for lower rents, higher wages and real pathways to homeownership.

SAFE NEIGHBORHOODS: POLICE AND FIRE

Jose supports law enforcement, not lawlessness, and he’s delivered for the people who keep us safe. He’s proud to be endorsed by the National City Firefighters.

On the City Council, Jose added 4-person firefighting teams, new police officers and 911 dispatchers always on call, and took on gang activity. As Mayor, he’ll add firefighters, keep 911 fully staffed and make our parks and neighborhoods safer for every family.

A BIGGER SEAT AT THE PORT

National City is home to a working waterfront and the National City Marine Terminal, but we hold just one of seven seats on the Board of Port Commissioners. The City of San Diego holds three.

Decisions made at the Port shape our jobs, our traffic and the air our families breathe. As Mayor, Jose will fight for National City to have a bigger voice at the Port, and make sure Bayfront investments, good-paying jobs and access to the waterfront benefit the residents who live next door.

CLEAN AIR FOR EVERY NEIGHBORHOOD

Families in West National City live next to the freeway, the rail yards and the Port, and they’ve breathed dirty air for far too long. West National City is part of the state-designated Portside community, recognized for its heavy pollution burden.

As Mayor, Jose will hold Port polluters accountable for clean air, push for cleaner trucks and port equipment, and fight to make sure every child in National City can grow up breathing clean air.

STOP TRUMP’S ICE

National City is a community of immigrants and working families, and Jose strongly opposes Trump’s ICE. Families should be able to go to work, take their kids to school and go to church without fear.

As Mayor, Jose will stand up to Trump’s ICE, uphold California’s sanctuary protections and make sure National City’s resources are used to protect our neighbors, not target them.
