MEET JOSE

Jose Rodriguez is a National City Councilmember, father of four, and former union organizer running for Mayor to fight for the people, not the powerful. Not millionaires. Not corporations. Not Trump. While City Hall just talks, Jose gets things done.

Jose and his wife, Sandra, have lived in National City for more than a decade, where they are raising their four children and stay active in their kids' schools. Jose knows how hard families here work to afford groceries and pay rent, because he lives in the community he serves.

Jose started his career as a union organizer, fighting to raise wages and protect healthcare for working people. He has spent his adult life taking on the inequities in our neighborhoods, from expanding public school funding to supporting small business growth in National City.

On City Council, Jose took on landlords to cap rent hikes, raised the minimum wage, and added 240 affordable homes across National City. He championed district elections so every neighborhood has a voice at City Hall. He also demanded our fair share from City Hall and delivered $23 million to renovate parks and rec centers across the city.

Jose has also led the charge to keep our neighborhoods safe. He added 4-person firefighter teams in every neighborhood, new police officers, and 911 dispatchers always on call, and he took on gang activity. Jose supports law enforcement, not lawlessness, and he strongly opposes Trump's ICE.

As Mayor, Jose will rein in rising rents, improve street cleaning, fight ICE and crime, stop cuts to senior centers, and hold Port polluters accountable for clean air. Jose will fight for a National City that's safe, clean, and affordable for everyone, no matter where you live or what you earn.
