Councilmember
Jose Rodriguez has lived in National City with his wife, Sandra, for more than a decade. They are raising their four children in National City and are active in school related organizations through their kids school.

Jose started his career fighting for working families as a labor organizer. He has spent his adult life working with the community to address inequities in our neighborhoods. Jose has worked to expand public school funding, increase minimum wages on large corporations and has supported small business growth in National City.
Among current primary issues, Jose encourages more affordable housing construction, advocates to increase home ownership opportunities in our city and supports more outreach to the homeless population to get them off our streets and in safe living environments.
Jose prioritizes the increase in quality of life in our city. That includes delivering on long overdue infrastructure projects like streetlights, sidewalks and paving of dirt alleys. As well as increase the amount of community parks and enhance the public spaces we currently have so our families can enjoy.

I am honored to run for Mayor of National City and would love your support.
I am running for mayor because we deserve a brighter future. I believe we can live in a more vibrant, family-oriented community; where our city works on behalf of its residents and prioritizes your well-being above everything else.
Since being elected in 2020, I am proud to have championed district voting in National City to ensure we have a councilmember who lives on the westside as well as finally having a Filipino-American / AAPI empowerment district for equitable council representation. I also fought to streamline the process for accessory dwelling units in our city to best utilize our land and build more affordable housing units.
We need a new approach, one of optimism and transparency. We need to roll up our sleeves and put in the hard work. Change is inevitable, it is up to every one of us to decide what the future of our city looks like.
We deserve more home ownership opportunities so that our people can buy townhomes and condominiums at reasonable prices. We need to help our small businesses thrive, and help start new businesses in every sector of our economy. We need to invest in our city - fix our streets, pave our alleys, install the hundreds of needed streetlights to have safer neighborhoods and dare I say—we need to plant more trees and properly take care of them! We need to decrease our city’s carbon footprint, increasing sustainability for future generations.
We deserve access to our bay-front. We are the only city in our region without access to the bay…this is unacceptable. We need to invest in programming for our seniors, kids and families at our recreation centers and parks.
Our families deserve all of this.
This collective vision is only made possible with transformational change through new leadership in both the Mayor's office and the City Manager's office. When these two positions truly work on behalf of our residents, National City’s opportunities are endless.
